You have just been hired as a bioinformatics analyst at Helix Station, a genomics research lab nestled in the hills above the university. Your supervisor, Dr. Chen, has just received a sequenced genome from the Crimson Mossback frog, an endangered amphibian found only in the mountain streams of the Pacific Northwest. This course teaches Python programming through a continuous narrative arc of real bioinformatics tasks. You start by storing individual DNA bases as variables, progress to organising gene sequences with lists and dictionaries, then load a full genome dataset with Pandas, clean sequencing errors, and finally build a DNA Sequence Analyzer that identifies genes and mutations. Every Python concept (variables, lists, dictionaries, DataFrames, data cleaning, plotting) is introduced because Dr. Chen needs it to solve a genuine problem. You are not learning Python in the abstract. You are learning it because the Crimson Mossback frog genome depends on it.
